3S Swiss Solar Systems installs integrated production line in record time

3S customer MSR Malaysian Solar Resources is successfully producing highly efficient, TÜV certified solar modules with the first module factory in Malaysia.

Lyss, 7 September 2007. Since the beginning of March, MSR Malaysian Solar Resources in Gambang, Malaysia has been producing crystalline solar modules on a 25 MW line. Less than 5 months after signing the agreement, MSR began production and despatch of the modules. With successful completion of the initial TÜV inspection at the beginning of July, certification of the modules also took place in an absolute record time.

Thanks to the fastest ramp-up on location, a comprehensive transfer of know-how and fast-track certification, MSR (formerly San-Du Solar Energy) has turned the vision of the first production facility for solar modules of this kind into reality in record time. The production line is modular and, without a great deal of work or an interruption of production, can be expanded to 50 MW if required.

Quickly on the market with turnkey 3S Modultec lines

3S Swiss Solar Systems offers, under the new brand name 3S Modultec, turnkey production lines with varying degrees of automation, attuned to the specific needs of each individual module manufacturer. 3S customers benefit from the unique process know-how of the 3S Group and obtain, through genuine turnkey solutions, security for a high and constant quality of their products. The perfectly attuned 3S Modultec line range from a single source, combined with unique certification support and comprehensive process training, forms the optimal basis for the realisation of an overall project in the shortest time – even for customers like MSR, who wanted to implement, for the first time, a production launch with highest visibility and minimal risk. With the aid of the overall packages offered by 3S, module producers save between 6 and 9 months on time-to-market compared with competitors' projects. That enables a fast cash flow and has a positive impact on the return on investment.

MSR Malaysian Solar Resources

MSR Malaysian Solar Resources belongs to a group of companies that, until now, has concentrated strongly on the real estate sector. The new module factory was built in the immediate vicinity of the Gambang campus of the Malaysia Phang Technical University, in order to make use of the closeness of the university for research and development. In cooperation with science, the company, that has newly entered into the solar energy business, wants primarily to benefit from the latest developments in the field of renewable sources of energy.

About Meyer Burger Technology Ltd

www.meyerburger.ch

Meyer Burger is a leading and globally active technology group for innovative systems and processes for cutting and handling crystalline and other high-grade materials.

The machines, competences and technologies of the different companies within the group are used in the solar industry (photovoltaics), semiconductor and optical industry. The thinnest wafers made from silicon, sapphire or other crystals are required in these three markets to manufacture solar modules, switching circuits or high-performance LEDs. The group’s core competences are made up of a whole range of production processes, machines and systems that are used within the value chain in the manufacture of high quality wafers. Since the merger in January 2010 with 3S Industries Ltd, the worldwide leader in turnkey production lines and single equipment for the manufacturing of solar modules, the group also covers the entire value chain for solar module production and combines the key technologies of soldering, laminating and testing under one roof. Solar module manufacturers worldwide use the string soldering machines of Somont, the laminating lines of 3S Swiss Solar Systems and the testing technologies of Pasan, to produce solar modules whose performance, operating life and quality meet the highest demands. The group’s comprehensive range of products includes a worldwide service network with wear and tear parts, consumables, re-grooving services, process know-how, servicing, after-sales service, training and other services. As a globally active company, the group is represented in Europe, Asia and North America in the respective key markets.
