Meyer Burger wins contract of approximately CHF 18 million, with an option for a further CHF 7 million.

Meyer Burger wins another important contract in the European solar industry. The customer, NorSun AS, is putting its trust in Meyer Burger’s wafer technology systems for the construction of a completely new 130 megawatt mono-crystalline silicon wafer factory. The order, amounting to approximately CHF 18 million, includes the complete production chain for ID/OD, band and wire saws. The first systems will be delivered in the first quarter of 2008 with the option of further wire saws in a total amount of over CHF 7 million to be delivered from early 2009 onwards.

Meyer Burger Technology AG (SWX Swiss Exchange: MBTN) announced today that the company had concluded with NorSun AS a contract to supply ID/OD, band and wire saws. NorSun AS is planning to build its first mono-crystalline silicon wafer factory with a production capacity of 130 megawatt in the first phase in Ardal, Norway. In addition to the complete production chain for ID/OD, band and wire saws, NorSun AS will also deploy – a market first - Meyer Burger’s automatic gluing station within the manufacturing process for mono-crystalline silicon wafers. This unit is unique in the solar industry and provides NorSun AS with an efficient and integrated process sequence.

NorSun AS intends to become a leading company in the international solar industry for the manufacture of mono-crystalline ingots and wafers. Jon Hindar, NorSun CEO says: “Meyer Burger is a progressive and innovative company with strong customer orientation. We are convinced that we have found in Meyer Burger the right partner for achieving our strategic goals”.

In addition to supplying ID/OD, wire and band saws, Meyer Burger shall also set up a dedicated service office in Norway manned by its staff to provide quality assurance of the servicing and process sequences.

“The fact that Meyer Burger is now also represented with NorSun in manufacturing high-grade mono-crystalline silicon in Norway is a great success” stated Peter Pauli, Meyer Burger’s CEO. “We are pleased to be able to support NorSun AS in the future in achieving its strategic goals and its quality requirements with our process expertise and our systems”.
