This system is due for delivery in the second quarter of2011. At its Roth & Rau Switzerland Technology Centre, Roth & Rau hasalready been working for more than two years now on developing solar cellsbased on hetero-junction technology that offer efficiency potential of morethan 20 % while ensuring favorable manufacturing costs. At the EU PVSECEuropean Solar Conference held in Valencia at the beginning of September,Roth & Rau already presented results of 21 % cell efficiency achieved atthe Swiss Technology Centre. Roth & Rau has thus underlined the rapidprogress made in development and the superb potential harbored byhetero-junction technology. Roth & Rau is currently the only equipmentmanufacturer to offer production systems for this highly promising celltechnology. The market launch of the new-generation SiNA antireflective coating system, offering numerous technical innovations and cost benefits compared with theprevious model, has also gone very well. Systems with a total capacity of1.85 GWp have been sold since the beginning of the year and are due fordelivery by the end of the first quarter of 2011. The company has alsoreceived letters of intent for further SiNA systems with total capacity of1.45 GWp due for delivery in the second quarter of 2011. Moreover, orderson hand also include further capacity totalling 3 GWp in the form ofold-generation SiNA systems and the DEP antireflective coating systemoffered by Roth & Rau's OTB Solar subsidiary. These too are scheduled fordelivery by the end of the first quarter of 2011. Also in production arethe first serial systems for the new product lines CAMiNi (firing furnaces)and CALiPSO (diffusion furnaces). These are to be deployed in currentturnkey projects in particular, significantly increasing Roth & Rau'sproprietary share of products in its turnkey production lines.'The record volume of new orders received in recent months provides clearevidence that by developing products such as the new-generation SiNA anddiversifying our market position we have managed to further expand ourmarket position,' commented Dr. Dietmar Roth, CEO of Roth & Rau AG. 'Notonly that, in recent years we have focused even more closely on developingnew, more efficient solar cells and deliberately expanded our expertise inthis area. The placing of the first order for hetero-junction technologyrepresents a major milestone in the effective marketing of this technology, especially as part of future turnkey production lines.' Roth & Rau has beensuccessfully selling turnkey lines for use in the manufacture ofcrystalline silicon solar cells since 2006 already and is now one of theworld's leading providers in this field.'As of 10 September 2010, we had received new orders worth EUR 347 millionin total,' added company CFO Carsten Bovenschen. 'We owe this not least tothe consistently high investments we have made in research and development. The first sale of systems based on our new forward-looking hetero-junctiontechnology shows very clearly that substantial investment in R&D is theonly way to achieve grid parity.'About Roth & Rau AG:Roth & Rau AG, based in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, has been one of the world'sleading suppliers of production equipment and innovative productiontechnologies for the photovoltaics industry for more than 10 years now.
